Why did you choose the National Space Centre as your wedding venue?
I’ve had a fascination with space since I was a child so when Chris proposed to me in
Kefalonia I knew straight away that I wanted a space themed wedding. The National
Space Centre was the obvious choice! Everyone at the venue went above (to infinity!)
and beyond to make us feel extra special on our wedding day. Our only wish is that we
could do it all over again!
Tell us about your day and what areas in the National Space Centre did you use?
We hired the entire venue because we wanted our guests to have the full on out of this
world experience - basically a wedding they would never forget! Our friends
and family were able to explore the rocket tower and all the exhibitions and have their
photos taken inside a rocket capsule or the ISS. Where else could you do that!
What extra touches did you add?
We employed the services of lots of local Leicestershire businesses including our wedding
celebrant, DJ and cakemaker, and we hired additional features such as a selfie mirror and
table lighting. But we set the space theme from the onset with special space designed wedding
invites, social media posts, space goody bags for the kids and a spaceman cake. We also had
photos of me and Chris and all our friends and family displayed on screens around the venue.
I’m also a big music fan so I was meticulous in my song choices for the ceremony and the
first dance (which was Gagarin by Public Service Broadcasting!) for which we wore spacesuits!
What did your guests think about your chosen venue?
Our guests LOVED the venue. People still tell us to this day that it’s the best wedding
they’ve ever been to. The National Space Centre offers such a unique experience and
there’s so much for your guests to do in-between all the official wedding formalities.
Having the planetarium show as part of the wedding package was also a huge bonus as it was
a nice unexpected treat for our guests.
Are there any tips you would offer couples planning to get married?
We planned our wedding within the space of a year. Within that time, we attended a
wedding fair where we met many of the local businesses that we ended up using on
the big day and had several meetings at the Space Centre where we planned the wedding
with our celebrant, wedding organisers and the Planetarium technical team.
We can’t recommend the National Space Centre enough for your big day. You will never
forget the experience and it will stay with you forever.
